POWERS & ABILITIES: ----

PERSONALITY: Anzu cares deeply about her friends, being very grateful to have them and knowing they were willing to stick by her for as long as they have. Whenever her friends were in trouble, she would step in and take control of the situation, as they had done for her on numerous occasions. All of them are a support system for one another. In the beginning, Anzu didn't care too much for Jonouchi and Honda because they would often bully Yuugi, but after a while, she warmed up to them, especially since she consistently set them straight anytime they would get out of hand. She's very smart and strong-willed after everything she's gone through, not giving up as easily as she used to. Even though she wasn't supposed to be working at the age of thirteen (because, for one, the job she got at Burger Queen, she had to be eighteen, and two, working while underage at Domino High was prohibited), so she was able to land herself a job.

There are two reasons Anzu has a job: she wants to save up enough money to leave Japan and go to New York to study dance. Dance was always her dream because she loved watching famous dancers on TV when she was younger, and her second reason is that she wants to move out of the house she lives in with her mother, younger sister, and cousin. The reason for this is because of the type of person her mother is, and almost everyone is aware of it. It didn't help that the rumors were amplified by Juria Kase. It is because of Juria that many students believed that she also slept around with guys for their money. Anzu didn't. In fact, she had feelings for the "Other Yuugi" inside the Millennium Puzzle. Even Jonouchi and Honda are aware of her feelings for the other Yuugi, but they don't tease her about it once in a while. Seeing as how Yuugi became well-known for defeating Pegasus at Duelist Kingdom, her mother pressures her to hook up with Yuugi and help him become more famous like Seto Kaiba.

Basically, her mother wants Anzu and even her sister and cousin to follow in her footsteps. Anzu doesn't want to. That doesn't mean she hasn't thought about it, but that is only because of the pressure from her mother to find someone financially stable to take care of her so she doesn't have to work. But Anzu doesn't mind working because she has goals of her own after high school. She doesn't want to depend on anyone to take care of her. But she's wary about leaving her younger sister behind. She doesn't want to leave and she ends up getting caught up in what their mother wants. She couldn't forgive herself for that. Another thing, Anzu was clearly jealous when finding out that Yuugi had a girlfriend. She also didn't trust her because it was suspicious how Yuugi never talked about her to any of them. However, she wouldn't admit it out loud, yet her cousin Cho didn't mind calling her out for it, which she disliked. Anzu doesn't want to hurt anyone, but realizes her life is more complicated than her friends and others around her realize.

APPEARANCE: Anzu is 5’5” with shoulder-length brown hair that is sectioned into two layers, consisting of a darker shade of brown inner layer, with the outer layer a lighter shade, and blue eyes. She has a peach skin complexion with a pointed chin, rounded eyes, and D-cup breasts. The usual attire that she wore the most was the Domino High School girls' uniform that consisted of a long-sleeved white oxford shirt, blue tie, pink uniform jacket, and blue skirt that stopped just below the thighs. During the events of Duelist Kingdom, she wore an outfit composed of a yellow shirt, which flows like a skirt at her thighs, with a pink waistcoat over it and a blue mini-skirt under it. A pair of brown knee-high boots completed the rest of her outfit. Her casual everyday attire is a light yellow-green polo sleeveless buttoned shirt, pink and blue bracelets she wore on both of her wrists, navy blue jean shorts with a light blue belt, white knee-high stockings, and blue platform shoes. She also wears a yellow tank top with the word "spirit" on it, a red skirt, and brown boots. Anzu also wore a black turtleneck tank-top shirt that shows off her stomach, and a red skirt with white boots. She also has her relaxing around-the-house outfit, which is just a spaghetti-strap black t-shirt and a pair of pink shorts.

HISTORY: Anzu is someone who will stand up and protect others, making her a good friend anyone could ask for. She'll also cheer on her friends to show them that they have her support, no matter what they're going through. Basically, she is like a cheerleader for her friends during hard times. However, she doesn't speak much about her own life because she's ashamed of it. Outside of her friends knowing that she wants to leave Japan to study dance in New York, they don't know the full details about her home life outside of rumors, which they don't believe. Anzu lives with her single mother, Remi Mazaki, younger sister Kuri, and cousin Cho Bunta, whom her mother took in. Her mother's lifestyle, even for someone her age, Anzu finds gross. She sleeps with rich men in hopes that any of them will marry her so she doesn't have to work anymore. She's THAT type of woman, and because she is, she tries to encourage her daughters and niece down the same path. Cho obviously hates that idea and tells her aunt frequently she's a gross old hag. Whereas Anzu and Kuri are often silent whenever the woman starts talking like that.

Her mother's lifestyle and desires were somehow discovered, and rumors began to spread during her first year at Domino High School. The culprit behind that was a super-rich and powerful girl named Juria Kase. Juria is known for basically having almost every faculty under her thumb and more power within the school than them and the students themselves. Anyone who attempted to complain would face her wrath. Anzu never spoke to her, but she was aware of Juria and the type of person she is. She saw how she ruined the reputation of other students at the school who dared attempt to stand up to her. Being someone who is for justice when she sees people hurting others, Anzu couldn't help but dislike Juria. But as soon as it was somehow found out what her mother wanted, rumors spread that Anzu was the same. Thankfully, Yuugi and the others didn't believe the rumors and stayed away from Juria. Unless she was bored is only when Juria bothered them. Which wasn't often.

Things changed when Yuugi's friends from Tokyo suddenly appeared in Domino and needed a place to stay. That is when she discovered that Yuugi had a girlfriend, some girl named Jasmine Tsukino. It was natural for Anzu to be jealous of her, so in their own way, they silently butted heads or avoided one another. Yuugi wanted Anzu and the others to get along with his friends from Tokyo, so it was hard for her to do that because of how she felt inside. Until his other friends got themselves situated, they needed temporary places to stay and asked kindly if they'd help him. Anzu was very surprised that Yuugi even called Seto Kaiba, who was very busy. He didn't think he'd ever care about them since he made it his life's mission to prove he's better than Yuugi and often mocked Jonouchi whenever they encountered one another. Which he had no shame in doing when he showed up.

So, Anzu had to take in two extra people into her home at the request of Yuugi. He could only take in two of them as his place was already small. When Anzu brought the two girls to her home, it was no surprise that her mother was upset about this. To her, it meant she couldn't have privacy in her house anymore. Because of that, Remi was hardly ever home. Whenever she did come home, she was always planting seeds into her daughters' and nieces' heads to follow in her footsteps. Again, Cho called her a gross old hag. But she couldn't complain that her mother was barely home for the short period that Rei and Ami had to stay with her. She treated them warmly, inquiring about them and what they were like. Clearly, they weren't interested in Yuugi the same way Jasmine was, so she had nothing to worry about. But when it came time to talk about herself, Anzu stiffened when asked by Rei.

She responded by saying her life, especially her relationship with her mother, was complicated. She's trying to get out so she can go to the States to follow her dream to become a dancer. Rei said that was awesome, but watched Anzu's expression in the way she said it, she couldn't help but ask her a follow-up question in the form of is she running away. Anzu was quiet for a moment before admitting, in a way, but part of her feels bad for leaving because she worries about Kuri and Cho. Ami and Rei understood and didn't pry further about the reasons behind why Anzu felt the way she did. Instead, they just paid close attention to her out of concern. As for Anzu, she began noticing strange things happening in the city. Random people getting attacked and strange girls in mini-skirts were saving them, calling themselves "Sailor Guardians". It's no surprise that she suspected that Yuugi's other friends were the ones who were the Sailor Guardians. But what they did and why is what confused her more. She didn't find it weird because she was used to dealing with crazy situations, given that she's friends with Yuugi.

But this was nothing like what she dealt with since knowing Yuugi. People were literally getting attacked, and it was dangerous. She wasn't sure if these Sailor Guardians were good people, despite claiming to be so anytime they were caught on camera by the news. Then they all began attending Domino High once they all got slowly situated into their own places, though Makoto and Minako stayed where they were. That's when shit began to hit the fan really hard with Juria amping up her craziness in targeting Yuugi's other friends because she just disliked that they were getting a lot of attention for being transfer students and because Jasmine began stirring up trouble in Juria's mind by trying to fix the wrongs nobody was willing to do around the school because they were afraid of being the next victim of Juria. That is when she was pulled aside by Juria secretly and threatened her to willingly sabotage Yuugi's new friends. If she didn't, she wouldn't be able to leave Japan without shame following her. She was already a partial disgrace to some who believed she slept with rich guys for their moment. Juria had no qualms about ramping that up more and making the rest of Anzu's final year hell.

Anzu was horrified. If she couldn't get out of Japan without being shamed into basically leaving and unable to come back, she didn't know what to do. Whatever Juria did to publicly humiliate her would follow her everywhere, even in the States. She didn't want to, but she kept up appearances around her friends while silently hating herself as she got more information about Yuugi's other friends. She did try to reach out to her mom about it to get some advice, hoping that the woman would at least be a normal parent and tell her what she could do to resolve the situation she was in. She didn't want to hurt her friends. But all her mother told her was to figure it out. Juria was in the position she was in because she had the wealth and power to do it. Telling Anzu said that she could learn a lot from her. This made her hate her mother more than she already did. As time went on, Anzu found out that Yuugi and Jasmine broke up on good terms. She could tell he was sad, but wanted her to be happy even if they were no longer together. She couldn't help but find that sweet.

As for whether she obeyed what Juria threatened her to do, she didn't. Making Juria take matters into her own hands to try to take out Yuugi's ex-girlfriend, but failed. Despite her jealousy over their relationship, Anzu was horrified to find out that Jasmine almost didn't make it. She was strangely happy that she pulled through. A part of her knew that Yuugi wouldn't have gotten over it if Jasmine had been killed. Anzu knew that Juria was behind it, but there was no proof. Instead, things proceeded to move forward with Yuugi discovering that there was an enemy after him and the Millennium Puzzle. She was asked by Yuugi one day to speak to the spirit of the puzzle, which made her nervous because it strangely felt like a date despite knowing that it wasn't. She wanted it to be a date, but it was important for the spirit to find out more information about who he was and what the next steps were for him to get those answers. That is when the two of them met Ishizu Ishtar. Anzu learned the spirit was an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, shocking information. But he was also warned that someone was after the power he supposedly possessed.

After the implied "date", they showed up in the town square that night, where there were many duels crowded around. Just then, Anzu and the spirit were approached by Mai Kujaku, whom they hadn't seen since Duelist Kingdom. Mai had told them there was a new tournament happening, but they weren't told who was hosting it. Just that all duelists were to gather at the town square for more information. Just then, they discovered Seto Kaiba from his helicopter, announcing that he was the one hosting the tournament and new duel disks for those who qualified to participate. As interesting as that sounded, Anzu was worried about Yuugi and the spirit getting hurt by this new enemy that was targeting the power of the puzzle. Though she was worried, she stood by both Yuugi and Jonouchi since the two of them entered the tournament. She supported her friends from the sidelines. She also noticed that the appearances of the Sailor Guardians lessened as well.

She wasn't sure if that was a coincidence or not, but she had her suspicions. Since Anzu knew she was going to the finals to watch Yuugi and Jonouchi duel, she made sure that her sister Kuri was in a safe place while she was gone. Her mother was hardly home and Cho had died a month before the tournament was even announced. So, that left the house quiet. Her sister told her she wanted to stay with Meranie and her mom, and Anzu was fine with that and thanked Michiru and Haruka for watching her. Things got crazier during the tournament because she was suddenly surrounded by Rare Hunters who captured her at the request of their master, Malik. When put under the control of Malik's Millennium Rod, Anzu completely blacked out and remembers nothing about how she got where she was, which was strapped to a chair with a crate over her head as Jonouchi and Yuugi were forced to duel one another. She was saved, thankfully, and it left her on edge as she and everyone made it to the finals.

Her friends kept getting hurt, and she couldn't help but tell Yuugi later that night, after the first around when it was decided who'd progress further to the semi-finals, that she was worried about him. She didn't want him to go through with the finals because she was afraid of losing him. However, Yuugi told her that he couldn't. If he did, the lives that were hurt because of Malik wouldn't be brought back. He had to keep going, for them. She knew he was right, so she dropped it. Her concerns still remained. Then another person decided to enter the fray and cause problems for them all. A kid named Noa, who hijacked Seto's blimp and forced them all to get off the blimp, where they were confronted by the Big 5, Seto's former executives. They were suddenly trapped in Noa's virtual world for what felt like an eternity, but by the end of it, Anzu was mentally tired. She just wanted everything to be over with.

The finals came and went. Yuugi won the tournament, able to defeat Malik and collect all three Egyptian God Cards that Malik wanted, before he fought against the evil inside him, which allowed Malik to return to who he was. Anzu was happy that things were over, but wondered how long it would last. The spirit still needed answers to the questions of his past, but that was for him and Yuugi to discover together. They all returned back to Domino. When she returned, she went to pick up her sister so they could return home. However, they went home in silence when she learned that Kuri told Michiru and Haruka about what was going on at home with them and their mother. She wasn't angry. Just tired. She returned to school to focus on perfecting her dancing skills. However, she lost out on a scholarship that was given to someone whom Juria knew. That upset her, meaning she'd have to take out loans to attend university when she graduated.

Which she'd decided on. It wasn't what she wanted, but it was better than giving up. She decided she was going to study dance at Daruma University when she graduated and inwardly prayed she wouldn't see Juria there. Originally, Anzu was supposed to be a semi-antagonist towards Yuugi's girlfriend and willingly sabotage their relationship by partnering up with Juria. Seto was also aware of what she was doing as well. However, decided to change this for Anzu so she has a better outcome in the story that doesn't have her coming out like a terrible person in the end.
