PERSONALITY: Karmen dislikes it when anyone out-talks her when she believes they are wrong and she's right. This is also how she ends up clashing with Terujo, Chei's girlfriend. Karmen only saw Chei as a friend despite acknowledging that he was attractive. She had no time for Terujo and always ended up arguing with her. Karmen made it clear she wasn't after Chei. It was normal for a girl to find guys she sees attractive. It doesn't give them the right to take them away from another woman. However, there's no denying she did like Chei and often wondered why he was dating Terujo. She was so obnoxious and obsessed with one guy. When it comes to guys, Karmen doesn't have time to play around. She prefers a guy to know what he wants, and if he knows he wants someone else, do the adult thing and end things. Cheating makes things slimy.
Karmen is close with her friends Jasmine Tsukino and Chiyo Choshi. The three of them love music and singing, forming a singing group together. She dreams of becoming a singer and has no qualms about showing what she can do to prove she has what it takes to achieve her goal.

HISTORY: This girl is a trip. She has a loud mouth and doesn't take shit from anybody. Karmen has a very foul mouth and doesn't care that much for hanging around stuck-up rich people. This would include someone like Juria Kase, who loved flaunting her wealth and power to everyone as a form of control. She originally believed Seto Kaiba was like this as well, and had no qualms about poking fun at hime for her own amusement. Chiyo would join in with her as well. She eventually warms up to Seto when she finds out he's dating Jasmine. Sure, she thought it was strange, and not to mention, found it awkward, but accepted it. After all, she wouldn't ditch her long-time friends at all.
While going to Domino High, she meets a guy named Chei Tagawa, who happens to already have a girlfriend by the name of Terujo Chino. Even though she didn't want to admit it at first, but she started to have feelings for Chei. However, she had standards, and she wasn't interested in coming between someone else's relationship. And she believes it's on the guy to figure out what they like and don't like in a person. Terujo was very paranoid and always clashed with Karmen over just talking to him. It was due to Terujo's constant paranoia that Chei eventually broke up with her and approached Karmen, asking her if she'd go out with him.
Granted, it was nice to know he liked her, but she was uncomfortable with the idea of dating him right after breaking up with his girlfriend. So, she made a compromise. They'd get to know each other a little while longer, and then once they graduate, she'll give him her answer if he's still interested. Chei was fine with this, and the two of them continued their friendship until graduation, where the two of them made their relationship official. Chei remained interested in Karmen, and she in him.
